Ursodeoxycholic acid, as an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), can be used to increase bile acid secretion, change bile components, reduce cholesterol and cholesterol fat in bile, and help cholesterol in gallstones dissolve. Ursodeoxycholic acid is a bile acid used to treat primary biliary cirrhosis.

Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) is a hydrophilic dihydroxy bile acid, which can promote the excretion of endogenous cholic acid, increase the proportion of hydrophilic cholic acid, and protect liver cells and bile duct cells from toxic cholic acid. It can prevent the interference of hydrophobic cholic acid on mitochondrial membrane, inhibit hepatocyte apoptosis, significantly improve liver function, and has the effects of immunomodulation and cell protection, and can be used to treat hepatobiliary diseases such as primary biliary cirrhosis and cystic fibrosis.
